Making HERstory with Sam Cook
It's not HIStory, it's HERstory with Sam Cook (see how I did that?)
This Goddess is gorgeous, vibrant and razor sharp. She knows how to turn her passion into reality and it all started with her internship on The Late Show with David Letterman in New York City. This accomplishment alone makes me fangirl and gush with pride everytime I see her...well, that and her gorgeous looks. It's really no wonder why Sam Cook is my first feature in Making HERstory on the JOLO Lifestyle Blog.
In the 90's Sam shifted from behind the scenes as an Intern on The Late Show with David Letterman to directly in front of the camera while hosting a popular children's show playfully named UhOh! Sam quickly grew a large audience of kids devoted to her show which aired on YTV Canada and Discovery Kids USA.
Sam's passion for media was stronger than ever. Her long career as a Radio Personality had her devoted listeners tuned into her radio shows daily. Sam's voice and talent was shared on major market radio station in Toronto - Kiss 92.5FM, Energy 95.3FM,102.1 The Edge, 102.9 KLite, KX 94.7 FM as well as Country 95.3FM. It was at Energy 108 when I first met Sam. Her shining personality is what brought us together but it's Sam's authentic character that has nurtured our friendship all these years later.
You can't help but crush on Sam the minute you meet her. Her appearance makes you want to strike up a conversation, but when she speaks, you instantly understand why she is a wildly successful voiceover artist. Sam's angelic voice has been scooped up by prominent clients worldwide including Virgin Mobile, Sony Music Canada, Much Music, Cineplex, Honda, Oprah Winfrey Network (I mean, WOW!) and the Canadian Country Music Awards...just to name a few.
If you're a podcast junkie (like me), Sam also hosts her own online show called Sam Cook Live (currently being re-branded and possibly re-named), where she features amazing talent including Brian Melo; winner of Canadian Idol, London Brown from HBO's television series Ballers and yours truly Joanne Vivolo; creator of VIVOLOg (shameless plug) plus many more super fly guests. Check out our Live Interview on YouTube or on any one of your favourite podcast platforms including SPOTIFY.
As if THAT wasn't enough to impress you, I recently learned that Sam recorded her very own song called More Like Her featuring Blind River!!! It so happens that she recorded this song in the same studio that Justin Beiber used in Stratford Ontario. Listen to her song HERE!
Okay, so I don't want to be to braggy (not a word, I know) but, Sam has accomplished SO many things already because of her fierce vision and drive to make it all happen. It's a total mindset coupled with vision, clarity and perception. All the things I talk about in my published book Lush & Luxe; Powered By Positivity. From Cheerleader for The Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Hollywood red carpet events, committee work for The Juno's, Program Director at Mohawk College, Print Model, MMVA's, and most recently announced Host for Season 7 of the hit Canadian show The Shot. I mean, common!!!! Being a Host for any show is something to be proud of, especially when you're able to represent undiscovered musical talent from across Canada and abroad. The semi finals for The Shot is on July 27th 2019 in which the top 10 will fight it out (a.k.a sing it out), for a spot on the finals airing August 17th 2019. Have you ever wanted to attend one of these events Live? Now you can! Get your tickets HERE!
and come watch The Shot Finale live at the RBC Theatre.
Through all of her successes and accolades, Sam continue to promote, boost and empower everyone around her. If ever there was a "Super Star" title to be granted, Sam would undoubtedly receive it. When Sam isn't at a radio station, in the studio or on set, you can usually find her collaborating with other businesses and Influencers creating content, courses and classes through her company called Social Remote. It's here where Sam loves to mentor other companies on the best methods to blast their social insights through the roof and relative ways to stay current and active through the constant social media algorithm changes.
But now, let's shift out of the spotlight and into real life. With all great talent, there is always a behind the scene struggle or hardship that isn't talk about much. For Sam, that's endometriosis. An often painful disorder which tissue that normally lines the inside of your uterus (the endometrium) grows outside your uterus. According to webmd.com, Endometriosis affects 3%-10% of women of reproductive age, and 25%-50% of infertile women. It affects about 40%-80% of women suffering from pelvic pain. Sam has never let her endometriosis diagnosis stop her from living her best life. Instead, Sam looks at her diagnosis as a blessing and is currently creating a podcast centered around the discovery, diagnosis and ongoing care of endometriosis, tentatively called "Lets Talk Endo."
For those who have never met Sam, I hope one day you get the chance. She is forever growing, teaching and sharing. Her gift of friendship is something I will always cherish. I encourage you to follow her on any one of her social platforms including FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, and/or TWITTER. I'm certain you will fall in love with her instantly!
